YOUTH WORLD

Let us start the New Year without Fear

Rev. Suresh Pawar

God called Joshua to take on the responsibility of leading the Israelites into the promised land after the death of Moses. Joshua was rather overwhelmed by this great task but he accepted the responsibility that God had bestowed on him and did everything with great  confidence that God will provide everything that he needed to lead the people to the promised land. (Joshua. 1:1-2, 1 Corinthians. 4:1-2). From this we learn that we need to trust God and take up any task that has been required of us even though it may seem impossible. Hence we do not need to fear responsibility.

When we put our trust in God we do not have to fear that our ability to carry out what is expected of us. He will give us whatever we need to complete a task that he has assigned for us to do. In our responsibility we must seek God’s help.  He will bless us with knowledge, skills, talents, experts, confidence and wisdom. (Philippians 4:13). We do not have to fear our lack of ability.

Joshua was young and there were elders, priests and teachers of the law, but God wanted Joshua to be a leader of the Israelites.  So remember, when God wants certain person for certain job, it is His choice even if you are young in age and experience. So don’t feel inadequate. You are chosen by Him to do His work.  Joshua overcame all difficulties and was able to lead the people into the Promised Land. So, if you are called upon to be a leader, do not fear, as God will help you, guide you and will give you success.

Go forward in the certainty of faith, in the knowledge of love and the vision of hope to accomplish whatever God has set for you without fear.  “…I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you…” Isaiah 46:4.

Golden Verse:  Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends form beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross. On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting form Him, He thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross and He is now seated at the right hand side of God’s throne.” – Hebrews 12:2

Question: What is the fear you have that doesn’t allow you to grow properly and became a master of your life?

Bible Reading:  Joshua 1:1-18; Hebrews 12:1-13; Philippians 2: 4.

News from the World of Medicine

  Is Valdecoxib bad?

The Bangalore City Chemists and Druggists Association has advised all drug retailers to withdraw the drug Rofecoxib from the market. Rofecoxib is a drug used for the treatment of arthritis and belongs to a class of drugs known as COX 2 inhibitors. This follows the withdrawal of the said drug from the world market by its manufacturer Merk. Merck found that there was an increased risk of heart attack or stroke for people taking a standard dose (25 mg per day) for 18 months or more. The risk of such problems was twice that of people taking a placebo.

Valdecoxib is another COX 2 inhibitor used widely for treating arthritis. The Food and Drug Administration of USA (FDA) has now recommended limited use of all COX 2 inhibitors since "they may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke" The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has also announced his decision to review the use and side-effects of all COX 2 inhibitors and ban them if found unsafe.

Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of diabetes.

Studies done recently have found a direct relation between developing gestational diabetes and smoking during pregnancy.  Though most of the women in India do not smoke many are exposed to tobacco smoke. This is one more reason why men should stop smoking in public places and in homes where there are expectant mothers.
